UKAS Accreditation

We are a “Type C” inspection body holding UKAS accreditation to ISO/IEC 17020 for the surveying of asbestos in premises; this ensures that Allium meets the exacting standards for Quality Assurance, Technical Competence and Site Safety required by legislation and clients alike.

UKAS Asbestos LogosUKAS stands for the United Kingdom Accreditation Service. It is the only government recognised national accreditation body in Britain. It has been designed to evaluate the competence of all organisations that supply services relating to certification, calibration, inspection, and testing.

This gives you ultimate peace of mind. The same cannot be said for those without UKAS certification. It is true that their prices may be lower in some instances, but this is because they are not bound by the same strict guidelines. Nevertheless, this means that you are taking a massive risk, as the quality of product testing and auditing quality may vary.

HSE’s guidance document HSG264 Asbestos. The survey guide states…

HSE strongly recommends the use of accredited or certificated surveyors for asbestos surveys. The dutyholder should not appoint or instruct an independent surveyor to carry out a survey unless the surveyor is competent.

Organisations can demonstrate that they are technically competent to undertake surveys for ACMs through accreditation to ISO/IEC 17020.…. Accreditation gives an assurance that an independent and authoritative body has assessed the technical competence of an organisation, including its underpinning management system. The scheme should ensure that the organisation can provide a valid service for the services specified on its schedule of accreditation.

Testing Requirements

It is a legal requirement that laboratories analysing bulk samples for asbestos are accredited to ISO/IEC 17025. Alliums in-house laboratory is fully accredited to the latest (2017) standard to ensure full compliance.
