Allium Environmental Ltd were recently commissioned to undertake an asbestos refurbishment survey of the former Derry’s Department Store in Plymouth.
The store closed in 2010 and the building has been mostly empty since then. The building is currently under conversion to create a mixed use scheme including a 500 bed student accommodation centre, restaurants and a hotel.
The survey has revealed a host of asbestos containing materials which are now being removed on a phased basis to allow soft stripping to commence. In order to ensure the safe removal of asbestos and to protect the construction workforce and end users of the building we have also been appointed to undertake the project management of the asbestos removal and remediation work.
Allium are now working closely with the Client’s chosen licensed asbestos removal contractor to advise on asbestos removal techniques, and audit on-going removal works.
