Asbestos survey in the Falkland Islands

Falkland Islands Asbestos Survey

The Falkland Islands are a remote South Atlantic archipelago, approximately 500 kilometres east of the South American continent. With rugged terrain and cliff-lined coasts, its hundreds of islands and islets are home to sheep farms and abundant birdlife.

In 2016 our surveyors Stephen Wicks and Steven Purves, spent three weeks on the Islands completing an asbestos surveying project consisting of targeted refurbishment surveys within over 70 plant rooms in support of a major utilities upgrade.

Our client had no hesitation, when additional construction works were required, in inviting us back to complete a refurbishment asbestos survey prior to construction commencement.

Steve Purves volunteered to return for a week in October to undertake the required survey, leaving the UK via RAF Brize Norton the military flight took approximately 24 hours to reach the Falklands, via Ascension Island.

Despite working long days to complete the survey on time Steve’s planned stay of 7 days was unexpectedly extended as the weather closed in and his scheduled return flight was cancelled. With an extra 4 days to wait Steve hired a car and explored the Islands, sending us the photos above.

We are pleased to have been able to once again support our Client and continue our relationship with these beautiful islands.
