A fantastic and exciting opportunity has arisen to join our expanding team of Asbestos Surveyors.  As part of the continued growth of our Consultancy, Allium Environmental Ltd are seeking serious candidates to fill the role of Trainee Asbestos Surveyor within Southampton.

Allium is a successful and rapidly expanding UKAS accredited Asbestos Consultancy, specialising in all types of asbestos surveys and asbestos management; from large government agencies and major developers, to public sector bodies and housing associations.

The Role

  • We are looking for hard working, enthusiastic, dedicated and flexible people to join our Asbestos Surveying Team as a Trainee Asbestos Surveyor, who are eager and willing to learn a new trade.
  • To join the business as a Trainee Asbestos Surveyor working towards gaining their Asbestos Surveying (BOHS P402) qualification. This is a full time, permanent role based within Southampton and beyond.
  • The position of trainee Asbestos Surveyor is supported through a rigorous industry lead training programme, at the end of which you will receive professional qualifications and authorisation to work as a fully trained and competent Asbestos Surveyor.
  • We will provide you with excellent mentoring, training, and qualification opportunities, which will allow you to excel and progress within the business.
  • Working on a variety and diverse range of locations and sites; including high profile projects for regional, national and international clients.
  • This is a technical, physical, hands on role which will require you to physically and visually inspect a variety of sites and buildings, capturing building construction and material data along with drawing electronic site plans.
  Trainee Asbestos Surveyor
Core Responsibilities
  • Assisting lead surveyors to undertake asbestos management, refurbishment & demolition building surveys; inspecting all areas of buildings, taking bulk samples, recording clear and concise site construction notes and creating plans/drawings using PDA’s (Alpha Tracker).
  • Submitting samples to laboratories and syncing surveying data and plans in a timely manner in order to meet strict and tight deadlines.
  • Liaising on a daily basis with clients, contractors and their representatives as well as other team members and members of the public.
  • To be up to date with asbestos and other relevant legislation, guidance and industry best practice including UKAS accreditation and quality management.
  • To comply with the quality management system (ISO/IEC 17020:2012) including participating in the quality assurance inspections and audit programme.
  • To follow a training programme, undertaking training and revision in order to pass the P402 examination to become a fully qualified Asbestos Surveyor.
  • Other duties as required to help and support the business growth.
Personal Responsibilities
  • As a trainee, we anticipate that you will be ambitious, hardworking, enthusiastic and willing to learn.  Ideally, you will have experience/knowledge in the construction, property or building industry.  This is a hands on role, so you will enjoy getting out and about and ‘getting your hands dirty’.
  • Knowledge of IT, computer programmes such as Microsoft Office and the use of PDA’s is essential (although full training will be given).
  • Must have a high level of attention to detail for accurate data entry and creation of drawings.
  • Must be able to work in small teams but able to use own initiative when required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • To have a strong work ethic and flexible attitude to working hours as the nature of the job will mean unsociable working hours, working at weekends and working and travelling away.
  • Be able to follow strict deadlines and adhere to tight working timescales
  • To be well presented, polite, professional and courteous as a representative of Allium Environmental Ltd.
Education and Qualifications
  • Secondary education, ideally GCSE’s grade ‘C’ and above in Maths, English and Science are desirable (but not essential).
  • 1 year work experience in construction/building/property is desirable (but not essential).
  • Require a full clean driver’s licence (essential).
Hours & Salary
  • 40 hours per week
  • Salary that commences at £18,550 pa, with excellent progression prospects and a salary increase once you become authorised.
